Home Grown Produce

Here at Briar Rigg we also grow our own produce which we sell locally through our box scheme and also to hoteliers and to our Bed & Breakfast guests. Everything is grown from seed, starting in the greenhouse and then gradually transplanted through the seasons. The idea is to grow interesting, really delicious, often heritage crops which are not readily available in supermarkets. Equally our aim is to use all the available space and cut down on food miles. As well as vegetables, fruit (including strawberries & raspberries, currants and gooseberries, rhubarb, blackberries, apples, damsons and plums) are turned into delicious homemade cordials, jams and chutneys. Lovingly grown and nurtured in breathtaking surroundings, Briar Rigg produce offers the very best in terms of quality and taste.

Vegetables are grown seasonally and range from a whole spread of salad items including tomatoes, herbs and lettuces, to potatoes, onions, beans and peas, leeks, beetroot, cabbages, swiss chard, chillies, kales, spinach, courgettes and squashes. Herbs are turned into flavoured vinegars and oils or added to bunches of cut flowers. Masses of basil is transformed into delicious fresh pesto.

Particularly popular is our unique Elderflower Cordial which is truly loved by those who've tasted it and much in demand.

Cut flowers are also available and tend to vary each week by what is in season. We have loved providing flowers for weddings too so if you are interested please get in touch.
